About the Project
The Village of Estero is beginning the design phase for improvements along Broadway Avenue West, aimed at making the roadway safer, more resilient to flooding, and more accessible for all users.
The Broadway Avenue West Safety and Drainage Project will focus on improving roadway safety and drainage conditions west of U.S. 41. The project will evaluate roadway conditions, pedestrian access, drainage systems, and overall safety to develop long-term improvements that better serve residents, businesses, and visitors.
The corridor currently includes features such as open roadside ditches and limited pedestrian accommodations. The project will look at ways to, improve roadway and pedestrian safety, improve drainage conveyance and resiliency, maintain access to homes and businesses, and enhance overall roadway operations.
The project team has officially kicked off the design phase, which will continue through October 2026. No construction is taking place at this time. During this time, the project team will review existing roadway and drainage conditions, collect traffic, pedestrian, and safety data, develop and evaluate improvement alternatives, and coordinate with utilities and regulatory agencies.
Residents may notice surveying crews, traffic counts, or soil testing along the roadway over the coming months. These activities are short-term and necessary to support the design. Every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience.

These improvements are designed to increase the level of service from a 5-year storm event to a 25-year storm event. The project area consists of the Gulf Shore Boulevard (GSB) right-of-way (ROW) between Oleander Drive and just south of 2nd Avenue South along Gulf Shore Boulevard.
The Naples Beach Stormwater Outfall Project cost is $86 million. The State of Florida is providing $40 million for this project through Legislative Appropriations.
